About Giftun Islands National Park

Giftun Islands National Park

Giftun Islands National Park, located in the Red Sea near Hurghada, Egypt, encompasses two islands — Giftun Kebir and Giftun Soraya — along with the surrounding marine environment. Covering an expanse of crystal-clear waters and vibrant coral reefs, the park serves as a vital habitat for diverse marine species, including colorful fish, sea turtles, and dolphins. The islands themselves feature white sandy beaches, rocky reefs, and small mangrove patches, creating a variety of coastal ecosystems. Established to protect these ecosystems and promote sustainable tourism, the park offers visitors the chance to engage in snorkeling, scuba diving, and boat tours. The underwater visibility often exceeds 30 meters, providing world-class diving experiences to explore extensive coral gardens, underwater caves, and rare marine flora. Giftun Islands have cultural significance tied to local fishing communities and historic Red Sea maritime routes. The islands are uninhabited but are a popular day-trip destination from Hurghada, with several marine tour operators providing excursions. Visitors are drawn by opportunities to swim alongside vibrant sea life, relax on sheltered beaches, and explore the protected natural environment. While camping or overnight stays are not permitted on the islands, the park remains a crucial conservation area, balancing ecological protection with recreational use. Its location within a broader marine protected area underscores ongoing efforts to maintain the health and biodiversity of the Red Sea ecosystem.
